What can brighten a rainy, cold, gray December day? Delivering toys to the Charlotte Marine Corp's "Toys for Tots program."

This year was even better than last year' - thanks to everyone for making a donation this year.

Special thanks to member and friend, retired USPS (and inactive Marine!) Jerry Smitherman for picking up our donation and delivering them to the Toys for Tots warehouse in Charlotte.

Fee 4 Food!

Board Chair Buddy Livingston was so excited about our Fee 4 Food program that he brought by bags of canned goods just to get us started. Here he is handing them to Senior Mortgage Loan Officer Joe Jones.

CPCU's Fee 4 Food allows members who donate a large canned food item to be refunded one fee they may have been charged this year - anything from a $1.00 ATM fee to a $29 NSF!

Of course we welcome donations even if you did not have a fee to refund this year! Thanks Buddy!

All food collected will be donated to local food banks - all 5 CPCU branches are participating in Fee 4 Food!

75th Anniversary Recognition!

At the NCCUL Annual Meeting in June, Carolina Postal Credit Union was recognized for our 75th Anniversary in 2009. CPCU will be 75 years young, Oct 30, 2009. Seventy-five years ago we were chartered to serve Charlotte Postal Employees and worked out of a tiny office in a postal facility. Today we serve all USPS employees that live in the state of North Carolina and the Mid-Carolinas District, have five branches and over $80 million in assets!

This past Sunday, May 3rd, 2009 CPCU employees Joyce, Lamesha and Jackie visited the USPS Family Picnic at Oehler Ranch Mallard Creek BBQ in Charlotte.

Our terrific threesome handed out "bubble wand clappers" and CPCU frisbees to the young (and the young at heart).

Nearly 1,500 USPS employees & family members enjoyed the great spring weather, a variety of games & competitions, and a delicious BBQ lunch courtesy of USPS' Social and Recreation Committee.

Phillip O Berry Academy Jr ROTC Cadets - They ROCK!

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Phillip O Berry Academy of Technology's Jr ROTC Cadets for their hard work and dedication to our annual Operation CU Troop.

Each year these cadets work very hard over a two week period to sort, repackage and coordinate all the hundreds of donations we receive for Operation CU Troop. It is solely due to their efforts that over 1,000 "goody bags" were given to the USO in Charlotte this year to distribute to the deploying soldiers as they leave right before Christmas to serve their country overseas!

We thank the hard-working young men & women at Phillip O Berry's Jr ROTC and wish them the very best for their future. They will go far in this life due to their commitment and dedication !!! Special thanks to Major Beasley for over-seeing this combined credit union & community effort with his amazing cadets.

Toys for Tots

CPCU was proud to participate in the Marine Corp Reserves Toys for Tots 2008 campaign. CPCU served as a collection point for the Marines as USPS employees and CPCU staff brought in new, unwrapped toys to be donated to over 60,000 children in the greater Charlotte region.

Things have been busy this Holiday Season! CPCU collected slightly-used coats, sweaters and jackets for the Native American non-profit organization, Heartbridge. A representative of Heartbridge came by Friday morning to collect the over 50 coats & jackets we gathered for the children.

Suriname Visitors During International Credit Union Week

Carolina Postal CU was pleased to recently host two credit unions employees from a "sister" credit union in Suriname, South America.

Head Teller Felicia Eijk and Member Service Representative Corinne Hooplot of GODO Credit Union visited us for the day and spent time on our Teller Line and with our Account Managers to pick up helpful hints on operations, efficiency and excellent member service.

Felicia and Corinne had spent the entire week visiting North Carolina Credit Unions but proclaimed Carolina Postal as the "coziest" of all that they visited!

Big Fun During International Credit Union Week

CPCU members enjoyed International Credit Union Week which was celebrated at all four CPCU branches. Members received a special CPCU gift each day and were treated to hot & buttery popcorn and fresh yummy cookies during their visits to the branches.

Rose of Thanks Creator Matthew Hunt Visits CPCU

Matthew Hunt, founder and creator of "A Rose of Thanks" visited the Charlotte Branch of CPCU to check out our "Operation CU Troop" display. "A Rose of Thanks" has partnered with Operation CU Troop's 2008 campaign to collect donated items for our troops serving over-seas.

CPCU has available in their branch lobbies "A Rose of Thanks" cards for free for members to write their own note(s) of appreciation and gratitude. Additionally, CPCU has provided crayons, markers, color pens, glitter & glue in their lobbies, in case members would like to personally decorate their cards.

All cards will be packaged individually with the donated food & toiletry items and given to the Charlotte USO who will distribute them to soldiers being deployed during the Holiday Season.

If you would like some "A Rose of Thanks" cards for your youth groups, classrooms, Sunday School Classes, etc please contact us at dmclean@cpcuonline.com. We'll be glad to donate these cards to you and then once decorated and signed bring them back to CPCU for distribution through the USO. Please have your cards back to a CPCU Branch by November 11th!

CPCU supports our Military Volunteers at Sunday Picnic

CPCU employees had the pleasure of visiting and supporting our Marine & Navy Corp Reserves Family Picnic Sunday September 14th. Held at the gorgeous Frank Liske Park in Harrisburg, over 1,500 military reserves and their families had a blast with the free food, volleyball, softball, basketball, dancing, contests, and more. CPCU handed out frisbees to the kids (and the kids-at-heart) and had a gumball raffle.

As part of our support for our men and women in uniform, we would like to remind you that Operation CU Troop has started - we are collecting items needed for the troops at all CPCU branches through November 11th. For more information on Operation CU Troop please click here.

Lamesha K Recognized for Outstanding Service

We took a moment along with CPCU member (and retired USPS & inactive Marine) Jerry Smitherman to recognize CPCU Member Services Representative, Lamesha K for her outstanding work in the recent PERF (Postal Employees Relief Fund) fundraiser held at all four CPCU branches.

Lamesha was dedicated to selling the most Paper Mail Boxes to raise funds and she sold the bulk of our mailboxes in Charlotte helping to raise over $1,000 for PERF!

The Postal Employees Relief Fund is available to USPS employees who have lost their homes due to natural disasters like Katrina, the flooding this summer of the Mississippi, Hurricane Ike, or even a lightening strike! For more information on PERF please click here.

Kirby Kangaroo, aka K2, had a blast recently at the Annual APWU picnic in Kernersville NC. If you need a hug - Kirby is a great guy (or kangaroo) to have around! The Kirby Kangaroo Club is for CPCU members ages 0 -12, we also have a CU Succeed Club for middle schoolers, C-Note for High Schoolers and Brass CU for college!

We Rocked It!

After months of intense innovative planning, decorating & design, the Greensboro Branch staff were ready for their Grand Opening Celebration held the week of August 18 - 22. With the theme "We'll Rock Your World" CPCU staff treated members to gifts, treats, a special Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony on Thursday and an on-site 3-day Guitar Hero Contest!

All members visiting during the Grand Opening Week were eligible to win Guitar Hero & XBox 260 prizes. We had a blast hosting the celebration - and here's to you Greensboro staff (and make no apologies for never wanting to hear Aerosmith again.....nothing personal Steven & Joe!)

Special thanks to K-2 (also known as Kirby Kangaroo) our kids' club mascot, for visiting and taking on all comers at the Guitar Hero Contest.

In case you didn't know, Kirby, oops, K-2 (as seen below) can really "rock out"!!!

CPCU Employees Raise Money for PERF!!!

In July the four CPCU branches had a little contest between them to see who could raise the most money for PERF by selling cute little paper PERF mailboxes to CPCU members. The effervescent crew at the Charlotte Branch won by a landslide although very good effort was made by High Point, Winston-Salem and our newest branch crew...Greensboro. Over $1,000 was raised and is going directly to PERF (Postal Employees Relief Fund).

In September our CEO Joy Watts, was pleased to present the check for $1,116 made out to PERF to Mid-Carolinas District Manager/Lead Executive David C. Fields, Sr. Mr. Fields accepted the check with thanks on behalf of the many postal employees who turn to the Relief Fund in times of need. “With the recent damage in the gulf and other states, this is certainly a significant contribution to the Fund. PERF is a wonderful resource for postal employees during their times of need.”

CPCU Charlotte Staff were excited to visit the new L&DC center off of Sam Wilson Road when they had their Open House on Sunday. Our kids' club mascot, Kirby Kangaroo, visited with the USPS families & children and helped served delicious hot CPCU popcorn! The children at the Open House were not only thrilled to see Kirby, but also enjoyed CPCU's famous Bubble Machine.

CPCU supports NALC Food Drive

CPCU received a NALC crystal plaque from Charlotte NALC Food Drive Coordinator and USPS employee Lorna Wooding in recognition of CPCU's assistance with the annual NALC food drive. CPCU underwrote the costs of the marketing collateral in the Charlotte area, purchased a community banner in the High Point region, and posted the Food Drive dates on their Billboard in the Greensboro area.
